CAMDEN, N.J. – Adventure Aquarium is bringing back its popular shark encounter and live dive shows just in time for Discovery Channel’s SHARK WEEK.

Guests can zip up their wet suits and jump in for the ultimate shark experience. Adventure Aquarium’s Shark and Ray Encounter gives guests the opportunity to snorkel alongside sand tiger sharks, sandbar sharks and Atlantic blacktip sharks in Adventure Aquarium’s 550,000-gallon Shark Realm exhibit. After coming nose-to-nose with sharks, guests will interact with and feed southern and cownose stingrays – after all stingrays are cousins to sharks!

Live dive shows will also resume in the newly updated Ocean Realm theatre. As divers swim among speedy Pacific blacktip reef sharks, silky sharks, zebra sharks, and Anchor, a nine-foot long great hammerhead shark, guests can ask divers their most burning questions about what it’s like to swim with these majestic creatures.

“Make Adventure Aquarium your shark destination this summer,” said Molly Deese, Adventure Aquarium Executive Director. “We know how popular SHARK WEEK is and we are excited to again offer one of our favorite encounters. This experience is perfect for shark enthusiasts, but if you’re not quite ready to share the water with sharks there are plenty of shark activities for the entire family to enjoy!”

With 12 shark species, Adventure Aquarium is home to the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast. The aquarium features Shark Tunnel, a 40-foot long tunnel with 180-degree views of sand tiger sharks, sandbar sharks, Atlantic blacktip sharks and nurse sharks, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey’s Shark Bridge, the world’s longest V-shaped rope suspension bridge crossing just inches above Shark Realm and Touch A Shark, a one-of-a-kind touch exhibit where guests can actually reach in to trace bamboo and epaulette sharks. Not to mention, Adventure Aquarium is one of only two U.S. aquariums that a great hammerhead shark, the largest species of hammerhead shark, can call home.

Sharks and rays are unfortunately threatened globally. Adventure Aquarium is educating and motivating guests to protect threatened and endangered species through the new Action for Animals self-guided audio tour.

Advance reservations are required for the Shark and Ray Encounter by visiting AdventureAquarium.com or calling 1.800.616.JAWS (5297). Dive shows take place for all general admission guests during regular hours. A show guide provided at arrival will list the dive show times.

Since sharks are of great interest during the shore-going months, Adventure Aquarium is happy to provide shark experts for press opportunities upon request
