Adventure Aquarium Welcomes Pacific Blacktip Reef Sharks

CAMDEN, N.J. — Join us for spring break as Adventure Aquarium welcomes Pacific blacktip reef sharks to the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast.

Ocean Realm, Adventure Aquarium’s 760,000-gallon seawater exhibit, is the new home to Pacific blacktip reef sharks who were transported to the aquarium from Newport Aquarium, a sister property in Kentucky. The Pacific blacktip reef sharks will be joined by over 400 animals, including “Anchor,” a great hammerhead shark, silky sharks, sea turtles, stingrays and giant groupers.

“We are always thrilled to welcome new residents to Adventure Aquarium,” said Molly Deese, Adventure Aquarium Executive Director. “It’s been 13 years since we last introduced a new shark species at Adventure Aquarium. Now with 12 shark species, the longest Shark Bridge in the world, Shark Tunnel and Touch-a-Shark exhibits, Adventure Aquarium is your shark destination.”

Pacific blacktip sharks are known for their speed and agility with prominent black-tipped fins that are easily recognizable. These sharks are found from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands and south to French Polynesia. Pacific blacktip reef sharks are listed as “Vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

This spring break, families can experience the underwater world at the aquarium and continue learning at home with activities, videos and a behind-the-scenes look at how our husbandry team cares for our sharks. Tune into our social media channels for this special shark content.

Adventure Aquarium is offering extended spring break hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from March 27 through April 4. Advanced reservations and ticket purchases are required ahead of a visit to the aquarium. Guests can schedule their visit at adventureaquarium.com/reservations.
