CAMDEN, N.J. (June 27, 2022) – Adventure Aquarium’s Nile hippo Genny is celebrating a one-in-a-melon birthday on July 10 as she turns 22 in 2022! Genny has decided to celebrate this special occasion with a week-long birthday bash fit for hippo royalty, complete with the chance to donate to hippo conservation efforts, watermelon-themed sweet treats, and even a visit from the 2022 National Watermelon Queen.
When asked about her upcoming birthday, Genny had the following to say, “For anyone asking what I want for my birthday this year, the answer is simple….WA-TER-MEL-ON….please and thank you!”
During Genny’s weeklong birthday bash, guests will have the chance to participate in the following opportunities and experiences:
Genny-Grams
For just a $1 donation to the Adventure Aquarium ACTS conservation fund, guests can wish Genny a happy birthday with a personalized, watermelon-themed Genny-Gram that will be hung up for her to see all week long.
2022 National Watermelon Queen
As watermelon’s #1 fan, Genny couldn’t have a birthday party without the delicious pink fruit, but Adventure Aquarium has taken it a step further by inviting the 2022 National Watermelon Queen, Bethany Barfield, to help celebrate the birthday girl on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10. During her visit, the Watermelon Queen will host a meet and greet with guests to answer their most pressing watermelon questions and pose for photo ops, and may even surprise Genny with an extra special water-melony birthday treat.
Birthday Sweets & Treats
The menu at Adventure Aquarium will get a melon makeover upon special request from Genny. From July 1-10, the Aquarium’s menu will include special watermelon additions, including watermelon-themed cupcakes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic watermelon ICEEs, and the return of the Flying Fish Watermelon Splash beer on tap.
Melon Master Carving Demonstration
Another special guest making the invite list to Genny’s ginormous birthday bash is melon master and Philadelphia local, Chef Joseph Poon. Chef Poon, known for his amazing and intricate watermelon art, will be on-site July 10 for Genny’s official birthday to demonstrate his impressive watermelon carving skills with an over-the-top melon sculpture fit for Adventure Aquarium’s very own watermelon queen and birthday girl.
Hippo Encounter
Book a hippo encounter for up to # guests for the chance to get within inches of Adventure Aquarium’s Nile hippos, Genny and Button. During this up-close encounter, guests will get to train, feed, and ask questions about the only hippos in the world to be exhibited at an Aquarium. Hippo encounters are limited to once per day and are available for purchase online only – BOOK HERE. **Children must be at least eight (8) years old to participate.
Genny’s 22nd birthday bash is sure to be one-in-a-melon and comes as part of Adventure Aquarium’s overall year-long 30th Birthday festivities as the facility celebrates three decades of underwater fun in Camden, N.J.
