Epaulette sharks are found in the shallow, tropical waters off Australia and New Guinea. Often referred to as “walking sharks”, epaulette sharks can use their pectoral and pelvic fins to "walk" over rocks and crevices in search of food along the reef and seafloor and across land to neighboring tide pools. They can survive in shallow, low oxygen waters by slowing their heart rate and limiting blood flow to their brain for up to an hour!
