Learn about how polluted waters are impacting Sea Turtles

The green sea turtles are large, hard-shelled turtles unique to their species, with adult turtles eating a primarily herbivore diet. Juvenile turtles eat an omnivorous diet until they reach maturity. The green sea turtle gets its name from this veggie diet, which gives its fat (not its shell!) a greenish color.

Green turtles inhabit the tropical and subtropical coastal waters of more than 140 countries and come ashore to nest and sunbathe in more than 80 countries.
