CAMDEN, N.J. — Adventure Aquarium is excited to announce a new species of shark -  a LEGO® Great White!

Adventure Aquarium and LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia are partnering this October by showcasing a 5 foot LEGO® Great White Shark replica at Adventure Aquarium Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, and exhibiting Bamboo Sharks at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia in Plymouth Meeting, Halloween weekend (Oct. 30 and Oct. 31) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We always love a reason to talk about sharks here at Adventure Aquarium,” said Nikki Grandinetti, Adventure Aquarium’s General Curator. “With the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast, we are happy to adopt one more, even if it's just for a weekend and in LEGO® form!”

Sharks are among the most threatened marine animals in the world. Recent estimates suggest that populations of many large sharks have declined by more than 90% in areas where they were once abundant. Since sharks are apex predators their extinction would crash ecosystems and create a shift in food chain hierarchy.

“We are looking forward to having Adventure Aquarium visit LEGOLAND®  Discovery Center Philadelphia, Halloween weekend to exhibit sharks, and to educate our guests about the importance of these animals,” said Anthony Rossi, Marketing Manager at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia. “Plus, it’s great our LEGO® shark will get to visit some real sharks at Adventure Aquarium!”

After the LEGO® shark’s visit to Adventure Aquarium, it will enjoy its permanent home at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. where it will don a plaque with its name. Guests can vote for the name by going to either Adventure Aquarium’s or LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia websites and social media channels. The name options include: “Finny,” “Ben” and “Jawn.” Voting ends Oct. 31 and its name will be announced Nov. 1 on social media.

The LEGO® Great White Shark replica was built in 72 hours and is made up of 8,500 LEGO® bricks. It is 5 feet long.

Members of Adventure Aquarium and LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia are eligible for discounts to visit the other property. Members can find more information in their member emails.
