CAMDEN, NJ – Camden’s aquarium, now known as Adventure Aquarium, celebrates its 30th birthday with under the sea fun offering guests free admission on their birthday, hosting 30 early open Member events and raising $30K to support conservation efforts around the world.

Adventure Aquarium will spend 2022 celebrating its birthday in three big ways:

Visit for FREE on your birthday!
To kick off the celebration, Adventure Aquarium invites guests to celebrate their big day with a FREE visit on their birthday. To visit for free on your birthday, guests must show proof of age at the Box Office. Accompanying guests are encouraged to make advanced reservations online.

30 Member Early Opens
Adding an extra benefit for our loyal Members, Adventure Aquarium will offer 30 Early Open Days for Members to arrive early and be the first to see our animals on exhibit without general admission guests or group tours. Members should check the Aquarium’s website for dates.

Raise $30K for Conservation
As part of our 30th birthday celebration, Adventure Aquarium is launching Adventure Aquarium ACTS, an initiative to support conservation efforts. To kick off this program, we are raising $30,000 in 2022 to support threatened and endangered species. We will also host events throughout the year to celebrate some of our favorite animals like sharks, hippos, penguins and sea turtles!

Opening its doors Feb. 29, 1992 as The Thomas H. Kean New Jersey State Aquarium, the Aquarium was considered the East Coast’s “newest and most dynamic aquatic attraction.” Today, Adventure Aquarium welcomes more than 850K guests in a typical year to explore life underwater featuring more than 15,000 animals throughout 2 million gallons of water.

“Adventure Aquarium has been a staple in the Camden community for decades,” said Vic Carstarphen, Mayor of the City of Camden. “It has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility educating and entertaining both guests and community members. The Aquarium has contributed as an employer of Camden residents and also as a focal point of the Camden Waterfront contributing to its expansion and designation as a family entertainment destination.”

Adventure Aquarium is one of four facilities in the world to hold accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for 30 years. The Aquarium is held to the highest standards of animal care and welfare, and supports AZA programs, such as SAFE: Saving Animals from Extinction and Species Survival Plan® (SSP). The Aquarium continues to join forces with other industry leaders to protect threatened and endangered species, contribute to research and rescue animals in need of human care.

”Every five years AZA facilities go through a rigorous accreditation process,” said AZA President and CEO Dan Ashe. “Adventure Aquarium has proven again and again it is a world-class aquarium offering its resident animals the best care possible. The Aquarium is an irreplaceable partner and a leader of excellence in the aquarium profession.”

Adventure Aquarium is excited for its future. As it continues to exceed guest expectations, offer one-of-a-kind experiences and surprise guests around every turn the Aquarium is eager to continue growth into its next decade.

“Adventure Aquarium is thriving, and there is no plan for it to stop anytime soon,” said Molly Deese, Adventure Aquarium Executive Director. “We will continue to improve and grow in the years to come, while still providing exceptional animal care and welcoming families to visit to create memories they’ll have forever.”
