Blacknose Sharks

The blacknose shark is a small, slender shark characterized by the black or dusky spot under the tip of its rather long, rounded snout. The spot is most conspicuous when it is young, becoming less obvious as it matures. This quick swimmer is a voracious predator that feeds on a variety of small fish including pinfish and porcupine fish. When threatened, it has been known to perform a defensive display by hunching the back, lowering the tail and raising the head, which possibly serves to warn off potential predators.
