ADVENTURE AQUARIUM KICKS OFF SHARK SUMMER WITH BABY SHARK(S) DOO, DOO, DOO, DOO

Adventure Aquarium celebrates their 2nd annual Shark Summer starting Thursday, July 25 through Monday, September 2. To kick off the celebration, guests will be able to go behind-the-scenes and view The Shark Nursery that houses baby sandbar sharks, along with a variety of animals that have never been seen at Adventure Aquarium.

“We are excited to finally announce that we have baby sandbar sharks! Since this is such a rare occurrence, we can’t wait to for our guests to see them themselves,” said Sara Frias, Director of Marketing and Sales at Adventure Aquarium. “With the all-new baby sandbar sharks, the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast, the only great hammerhead on exhibit in the United States, the world’s longest Shark Bridge and more, Adventure Aquarium is the place to go to experience sharks this summer!”

Not only will visitors be able to see baby sharks, but guests will also have exclusive opportunities to see native New Jersey sharks, interact with shark artifacts, show off their inner shark with cool shark-Mohawk fins and so much more all Shark Summer.

What do the sharks of Adventure Aquarium have planned for Shark Summer?

  • *NEW* Go Behind-the-Scenes and Meet Our Baby Sandbar Sharks – For the first time ever, visitors will have access behind-the-scenes to the Quarantine Building, which houses baby sandbar sharks and other various animals. Guests can explore and discover the new delivery of baby sharks, as well as learn all about how sharks are transferred from one place to another and what the Quarantine Building is used for.

  • *NEW* Shark Shows – Adventure Aquarium is doing sharks even better this year! Guests can enjoy new shark shows during their visit. Ever wondered how we feed our largest exhibit? Guests can join us for an “It’s Feeding Time!” show where guests can see an Ocean Realm feed. Think you know a lot about sharks? Visitors can also test their knowledge and join the Shark Trivia game

  • Exclusive Shark Fin Hats – The first 400 Adventure Aquarium guests on Monday, July 29 and Friday, August 2 will receive a special giveaway of commemorative Discovery’s Shark Week shark fin foam hats just before they immerse themselves in the world of sharks, while supplies last.

  • Sips Undersea: Shark Week Edition – On Thursday, July 25, hundreds of young professionals from all over the Delaware Valley will enjoy happy hour underwater during the Sips Undersea event, in partnership with Swedish Fish. Visitors can partake cocktails, Swedish Fish candy and a silent disco all while enjoying the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast.

  • Shark Conservation Weekend – Guests will be given the opportunity to help save sharks during the 3rd annual Shark Conservation Weekend beginning Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4. During the weekend adopt a shark, participate in an abbreviated Shark & Ray In-Water Encounter or spin our prize wheel to win a prize. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the AZA SAFE Foundation (Association of Zoos and Aquariums: Saving Animals from Extinction), and the Shark and Ray Conservation Action Plan - a program committed to saving sharks and rays. Donations will also benefit OCEARCH, a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented research on great white sharks and other large apex predators.

  • Dare to Cross Shark Bridge Visitors will take a walk on the wild side as they cross the longest V-shaped rope suspension bridge of its kind in the world, and walk just inches above the 21-foot deep Shark Realm exhibit and dozens of sand tiger, sandbar, blacktip and nurse sharks swimming below. The Shark Bridge experience, presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, is included with Aquarium admission.

  • Walk Through Shark Tunnel Surrounded by sharks, guests will have a 180-degree view of Shark Realm, the second largest exhibit at Adventure Aquarium.

  • Be Daring and Touch A Shark Guests big and small can overcome any fears and safely touch some of the most exotic sharks in the world in the interactive Touch A Shark exhibit.

  • See the Only Great Hammerhead in the US Visit Ocean Realm and meet Anchor, the Aquarium’s great hammerhead, who is also the only one of his kind on exhibit in the entire United States.

  • Touch a Stingray aka Shark’s Cousin Stingrays are close relatives of sharks. Guests can interact with a variety of stingray species, including opportunities to touch and feed them, in Stingray Beach Club. Unlike sharks, their skin feels super smooth and they are the friendliest “shark cousins” around!

  • Gill’s Dance Parties – Visitors can move and groove with our shark mascot, Gill, during his very popular dance parties! Guests can show Gill their best dance moves, as well as participate in limbo and other fun shark dances.

  • Shark Talks & Artifacts – Learn more about sharks during Shark Talks, where guests will get a chance to meet a shark expert and learn about the residents of Shark Realm, as well as ask all the shark-related questions they’ve been dying to know the answers to!

  • Daily Shark Face Painting Transformations and Glitter Tattoos – Guests can show off their inner shark by getting a shark glitter tattoo or having their face painted at Stacey’s Face Painting. The face painting staff will even spike up hair to make a shark fin Mohawk!

  • Shark & Ray In-Water Encounter – Take the next step in the ultimate #SharkSummer journey and dive in with a Shark & Ray In-Water Encounter! Brave guests will snorkel alongside massive sand tiger, sandbar and blacktip sharks in Shark Realm – with no glass in between. They will then visit with stingrays (sharks close cousins) and feed them. Reservations are needed in advance and can be made by visiting AdventureAquarium.com or call at 844-474-FISH (3474).

  • Shark Sweets – Guests can take a break and enjoy a shark-themed treat during their visit! From ice cream to a refreshing drink or alcoholic beverage, we have a shark treat for all ages to enjoy.
