Adventure Aquarium, in partnership with the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) and AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction, is proud to announce the 8th Annual African Penguin Awareness Weekend, a festival which creates awareness for endangered African Penguins in the wild.
During Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5, guests will enjoy a wide variety of penguin programming, including a special morning “penguin pep rally,” penguin feeds, up-close penguin appearances, various opportunities to help penguins in the wild and much more!
“We are thrilled to host African Penguin Awareness Weekend for the eighth consecutive year,” said Michele Pagel, Curator of Birds and Mammals, Adventure Aquarium. “African penguins are endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN). This weekend gives us a chance to spread awareness for our conservation partners, SANCCOB and AZA SAFE, as well as invite our guests on the many ways they can become a hero to penguins in the wild. We also hope they’ll come away from their visit with a brand new perspective on our colony right here at Adventure Aquarium!”
All donations made during the weekend will benefit penguins in the wild. Adventure Aquarium will also match the donations made by guests dollar-for-dollar throughout African Penguin Awareness Weekend.
