Thanks to Aquarium guests and staff $7,385.72 donation
raised to help sea turtles in the wild in just three days!
Koopa’s sendoff party was a definite success! Adventure Aquarium’s resident sea turtles, along with Aquarium staff, spent last weekend raising money for sea turtles all over the world and saying goodbye to rehab and release hatchling, Koopa, before his departure later this month. A record-setting donation total of $7,385.72 was collected during the Aquarium’s 2nd annual Sea Turtle Awareness Weekend, held during the Columbus Day holiday weekend.
Adventure Aquarium matched all guest donations dollar-for-dollar to reach the grand total which was more than three times the amount raised in 2015. 100% of the proceeds collected from the weekend will benefit the Sea Turtle Conservancy, a nonprofit organization based in Florida which helps sea turtles in the wild all over the world through conservation, research and educational programs.
“When our guests and team members come together in the name of conservation and support for such a worthy cause, it is a rewarding moment,” said Nikki Grandinetti, Curator of Fish and Invertebrates, Adventure Aquarium. “Our sea turtles serve as ambassadors that reinforce the link between our animals here at Adventure Aquarium and their wild counterparts. We are extremely proud to provide families with a greater connection to these incredible and endangered animals.”
Adventure Aquarium looks forward to the future conservation awareness weekends in 2017. For more information on upcoming events, visit AdventureAquarium.com.
